Major Contract Win: 1,700 Pallet Space Bespoke 3PL Operation Live at Cumbernauld

Major Contract Win

PPS Logistics has stood up a fully customised 1,700 pallet space storage and 3PL contract at our Cumbernauld
depot, delivering the Scottish end of a major UK fulfilment contract in partnership with Palletways.

The contract represents a significant step forward for PPS, for Cumbernauld, and for the wider case for using
local Scottish supply chain partners on national contracts.

The brief

The customer was previously fulfilling Scottish orders from a site in Fradley, with on-time delivery into the
Scottish delivery point a persistent problem. Palletways holds the England and Wales contract for fulfilment,
and the question on the table was simple: who could take on the Scottish leg, build the storage capability from
scratch, and deliver against a service standard the customer wasn’t getting from a nationwide setup?

We went after it, and won it.

What we built

The project kicked off in March 2026. Since then we have:

  • Built 1,700 new pallet spaces at Cumbernauld, fully bespoke to the customer’s product profile and call-off
    pattern.
  • Invested £150,000 in specialised racking and wrapping equipment to support the operation.
  • Transferred 1,300 pallets of customer stock into the site and called it off over time, currently sitting at
    100% on-time delivery.
  • Taken on both inbound and outbound scope from day one, with the inbound volume now ramping up as
    the contract matures.
  • Partnered with Clarus on the warehouse management system, giving us the stock visibility and control
    the contract needs.

Growing the team in Cumbernauld

Standing up an operation on this scale meant a serious team build. We took on additional HGV drivers to
handle the inbound and outbound transport into and out of the Scottish delivery point, and recruited forklift
drivers and warehouse operatives to run the 1,700 pallet space operation on the floor.

Just as importantly, we promoted from within. Several existing PPS team members at Cumbernauld stepped up
into more senior roles as the operation scaled, taking on responsibility for shift coordination, stock control and
customer-facing communication. Investing in our own people first is something we believe in, and this contract
gave us the platform to do it properly.

If you’re an HGV driver, Class 1 or Class 2, or a forklift operator looking for work in Cumbernauld or the wider
Lanarkshire and Glasgow area, we’re a growing operation worth a conversation. Send your CV to our
recruitment team and we’ll be in touch.

A word from the MD

Andy Muir, Managing Director at PPS Logistics:

“We had no racking and no system in the warehouse to handle a project of this scale, and were genuinely
in two minds about what to do with the site. We upskilled our existing team, recruited additional HGV
drivers, forklift drivers and warehouse staff, promoted from within, partnered with Clarus on the WMS,
and took on the warehousing and all transport into the Scottish delivery point.
The project had its challenges and teething issues handling the inbound freight volume, but we’re now
sitting at 100% OTD with both inbound and outbound flowing through the site. It showcases the strength
of using local supply chains and local businesses, where the impact is meaningful, rather than defaulting
to nationwide providers.
A huge win for us, and we’re doing everything in our power to deliver an exceptionally strong service on
this contract.”

Why it matters

This contract anchors Cumbernauld at full storage capacity and underpins the PPS business plan for 2026 and
beyond. It’s the kind of operation that demonstrates what the Palletways network can deliver at depot level
when the right local partner is plugged in behind it.

Winning a 2,000 pallet space contract isn’t easy, particularly starting from a site with no racking in place and a
customer that needed the service problem solved fast. The work is a strong proof point for the wider argument
we’ve been making for some time: large national customers get better service, better cost, and better
commercial flexibility when they use Scottish operators for the Scottish end of their supply chain, rather than
running everything through a single nationwide provider.

Looking for a 3PL partner in Scotland?

If you’re handling Scottish fulfilment from down south and the service isn’t where it needs to be, we’d be
happy to talk. We have capacity, capability, and a track record of building bespoke operations around
customer requirements.
