Our UK’s Strongest Man Truck Pull in the Daily Record, Motor Transport and Yahoo News
When we put one of our Class 1 artics in front of the UK’s Strongest Man finalists on the banks of the Clyde, we knew it would make good television. What we didn’t expect was quite how far the story would travel afterwards. In the past couple of weeks our Strongest Man truck pull has been picked up by the Daily Record, Motor Transport and Yahoo News UK.
Here’s a quick round-up of who covered it and what they said.
Daily Record: an Ayrshire firm delivers a 20-tonne challenge
The Daily Record ran the story in its Ayrshire Live section, leading on the fact that a Kilmarnock haulage company is used to shifting serious weight and had, for once, handed that job to somebody else. The piece focused on the Truck Dash and Pull along the River Clyde and on Ian Muir, our former Transport Manager, who came out of retirement to sit in the cab of the 20-tonne truck as the finalists hauled it down the course. It also picked up on the wider haulage operation behind the event, moving competition equipment between Ireland and venues across the UK.
For a family business that started in Kilmarnock, seeing the story in the Record means a lot. Plenty of our drivers, customers and their families will have read it over their breakfast.
Motor Transport: recognition from the industry
Coverage in Motor Transport is a different kind of milestone. It’s the title read by fleet operators and transport managers across the UK, so appearing in its operator news pages puts PPS in front of the people who understand exactly what it takes to run an event like this to a live broadcast schedule.
Motor Transport highlighted that PPS was the official logistics partner to the competition, that this was the first time UK’s Strongest Man had ever been staged in Scotland, and that the haulage was delivered with support from our Palletways colleagues at Montgomery Transport Group, Darcica Logistics and Stuart Nicol Transport. It also quoted Lesley Ewing, who coordinated the whole operation, on the amount of behind-the-scenes work involved in moving kit between Ireland, Milton Keynes and Glasgow to a television timetable.
Yahoo News UK: a national audience
The Daily Record piece was also syndicated to Yahoo News UK, taking the story to a UK-wide audience well beyond Ayrshire and the transport trade. Not bad for a truck that spends most of its week running pallets around Scotland.
